Giovani BELLINI In 1507, Giovanni Bellini represented a prayer rug from the Turkish region of Ushak. The Bellini denomination was henceforward attributed to Italian specimen who had appeared in 1470. From 1750 onwards, these rugs were no longer featured in paintings. Two categories of prayer rugs from the Ushak region (Turkey) are known: one with a double mihrab, the other with a single mihrab (a continuous outline defining the "key hole" motif which is directed towards Mecca while praying).
