Ambassadors and travellers plied regularly between Europe and
Eastern courts in the 14th and 15th centuries. At that time
carpets belonged to the prestigious items, which were either
offered or exchanged. As a consequence oriental carpets were
soon to adorn the princely palaces and wealthy mansions of Europe,
the owners of which were either John Duke of Berry, the Medici,
Venetian patricians, and so on.
